Abbi's Anchored in Hope

Always Have Hope. Be the Light.

Turning heartbreak into hope by opening doors for students, standing beside families, creating space for grief and bringing people together in ways that carry Abbi's light forward.

Her story is our beginning.

Abbi is at the heart of everything we do. Abbi's Anchored in Hope was created to carry forward the love, courage, humor, kindness and hope she gave so freely.

Her story is bigger than what happened to her. At 16, Abbi was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor. She went on to graduate valedictorian in May 2022, and she died on October 14, 2022, at 18. Through all of it, she kept living with faith, humor, music, fierce love for people and an unmistakable hope that still shapes this foundation.

Today, AAiH carries that light into scholarships, show choir support, grief support through Children Remembered, connections and care for people facing serious illness, and community partnerships that help hope reach farther.

This is the Abbi we want people to know.... not simply the story of what happened to her, but the whole funny, talented, fiercely alive person she was.

A Little More Abbi

Because a photo can only tell you so much.

These are simply little flashes of Abbi being Abbi.... expressive, social, playful and completely herself.

Hope Grows

The family behind AAiH.

Abbi's light still leads us. Abbi's Anchored in Hope is a Cedar Rapids-area nonprofit created by her family to carry her legacy forward through hope, support, connection and opportunity.

Her family is part of this story, too. We carry Abbi with us in the ordinary things — stories, inside jokes, celebrations, hard days and the work of this foundation. AAiH is not about holding her in one moment. It is about letting the love she gave keep moving outward.

That family perspective shapes how we show up: personally, locally and alongside people already doing good work. Sometimes hope looks like a scholarship or show choir support. Sometimes it means sitting with a grieving parent, helping someone find the right resource or reminding them they do not have to walk through something hard alone.

Abbi's story is where AAiH began. The hope it creates belongs to everyone who helps carry it forward.

How we carry her light.

AAiH stays intentionally personal. We focus on places where encouragement, connection, opportunity or practical support can help someone feel seen, included and less alone.

Partnership is part of the work. AAiH does not need to recreate what others already do well. We work with schools, families, local organizations and trusted partners so the right kind of hope can reach the right person.

Where community comes together for hope.

Our two annual fundraising events bring people together to move, golf, give, volunteer and help create the resources that carry Abbi's light forward.

Cancer & Serious Illness

AAiH works alongside trusted organizations serving people and families facing cancer and serious illness.

Depending on the situation, we may help connect pediatric oncology families with Mya Strong Foundation, cancer patients and families with Mark Harrison Cancer Foundation, or another appropriate resource.

Grief After the Death of a Child

Children Remembered offers a welcoming monthly space for parents and families to remember a child they love and walk alongside others who understand.

You do not need to have been connected with AAiH before attending or reaching out.

Not Sure Where to Start?

That's okay. Tell us a little about what you're facing and we'll do our best to help identify a resource, community partner, or next step.

AAiH does not promise direct financial assistance in every situation. Our role may be to listen, connect, collaborate, or help you find the organization best suited to the need.

For urgent medical, mental-health or emergency needs: please contact the appropriate healthcare provider, emergency service or crisis resource directly. AAiH is a community nonprofit and is not an emergency-response service.

Hope Shared

Because hope grows when it’s shared.

There’s a place for you here — give, show up, sponsor, volunteer, join an event, share the story or help connect someone with support. Every act of light matters.
